"Mientes" by Camila : The Preterite

The song "Mientes" (You lie) by Camila describes the realization that a former love was not what she seemed to be. 

This ballad is slow and thus very easy to understand. Listen to the song and read the lyrics. Study the vocabulary and notice that the verbs in the preterite are blue. These verbs describe actions that occurred in the past. Read the grammar lesson at the bottom of the post for a closer look at the verbs in the preterite.

seguir : to follow

conseguir : to obtain

hacer daño : to hurt (someone)

arrepentirse : to regret; to be sorry

no tiene caso : there's no point

intentar : to try

las ganas de : the desire to

*no me quedan ganas de sentir : I have no more desire to feel

estar a punto de : about to

el camino : path; journey

en otra parte : elsewhere

mientras : while

Tú llegaste a mi vida para enseñarme : You arrived in my life to teach me.

Tú supiste encenderme y luego apagarme : You knew how to switch me on and switch me off.

Tú te hiciste indispensable para mi : You made yourself essential for me.

Y con los ojos cerrados te seguí : And with closed eyes I followed you.

Si yo busqué dolor lo conseguí : If I searched for pain I got it

no eres la persona que pensé, que creí,  que pedí : You are not the person that I thought, that I believed, that I expected
